Oak Coffer
An interesting play on the traditional Scottish oak coffer with a flush lid for use as a coffee table. This piece was constructed of solid oak and pippy oak book-matched panels with ash drawers and compartments. With the doors closed the piece looks like a simple panelled chest, but hidden inside and accessed through various different mechanisms are 9 secret compartments. Other than the aged brass lid hinges and stays, all mechanisms were hand-made including door catches originally attributed to the famous Siberian born cabinet maker, James Krenov. Back |
