Oak Steamer TrunksAlthough completed nearly a year on, this was actually my first confirmed commission following completion of the furniture course at Chippendales. We met at the year-end exhibition and the husband and wife clients liked the oak chest with secret compartments I had produced and asked for a unique set of three oak pieces for their new property in London.
The discussions that followed led to designs that reflected the clients' work and interests including significant world travel, sailing and time spent working in China and other part of Asia. The primary aim was to produce useable pieces of furniture for their main living area that would, in closed form, act as side tables and a plinth for their Ju Ming bronze and, in revealed form, would act as after dinner entertainment for guests of all ages, with complex secret compartments to decipher and board games to play.
